Choosing foods, eating meals: sustaining independence and quality of life in old age
The FOOD IN LATER LIFE research provides a comprehensive investigation of attitudes and beliefs of older consumers, their food preferences and their food shopping habits, in 8 countries (UK, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain and Portugal). Researchers also assess their contentment with food-related services available to the elderly (e.g., home help, meals on wheels, luncheon clubs, delivery services, shopping facilities). This survey reveals the social importance of food-related activities (shopping, preparing and sharing meals) for seniors, as well as the impact of the social networks on food procurement. In addition, it suggests pathways of improvement to food services, retailers, industries, to better meet the needs, expectations and difficulties facing older people.
