Which beer contains more energy per volume - with alcohol, or without?
Spain
Beer with alcohol contains more energy per volume than beer without. Alcohol is high in energy. There are 7 calories in a gram of alcohol, which makes it a fairly high-calorie food item. By comparison, protein and carbohydrates contain 4 calories and fat 9 calories per gram. The calorie content of beer with alcohol with an average alcohol content of 5% by volume is about 40 kcal/100 g, whilst the calorie content of non-alcoholic beer is about 25 kcal/100 g. Alcohol cannot be stored by the body and thus must be metabolised to energy or transformed into fat as a matter of priority by the body. Thus alcohol displaces fats and carbohydrates as components which supply energy. These are the reasons why alcoholic beer contains more energy per volume than non-alcoholic.
