Frequently Asked Questions

I am the mother of two children aged six and nine years old who love desserts. How can I prepare healthier desserts for them?

To prepare healthier desserts you could:
  • Add some fresh fruit which provide vitamins, minerals and other healthy nutrients.
  • You could add some nuts too. Nuts are very healthy because of the type of fatty acids and vitamin E they contain. They also have a high energy (calorie) content so don't overdo it.
  • Add some cereals which provide fibre, vitamins and minerals.
  • Avoid excessive use of toppings like cream or chocolate.
  • Instead use milk, yoghurt or fruit juice that have less fat and energy (calories).
  • In addition try to increase the range of desserts you give your children which will also improve the variety of nutrients provided. Of course, the importance of variety holds true for any other meal, too.
