Is biotechnology really necessary?

The applications of biotechnology to plant breeding can offset the vulnerability of crop production to damage caused by diseases and pests leading to losses that quite often are grossly underestimated. The world grain stocks are currently at their lowest level in 30 years and far below the safety level of 60 days world need set by the United Nations and the FAO. The world needs more reliable food production from crops and livestock. To meet that growing demand, more disease-resistant crops with increased yield potential need to be developed, without expensive arable land expansion and further deforestation. ALTRE DOMANDE
