What are the differences in food produced with the help of biotechnology?

Most if not all of the plants used in agriculture are vastly different from their ancestors. Since man began practicing agriculture he has looked for improvement of plants and animals by breeding. Nature does it by itself: rape seed is a natural hybrid between cauliflower and turnip. Plant breeders use natural variation to select plants with more desirable properties, such as the wild cabbage from which a variety of food plants resulted: cauliflower, broccoli, red cabbage, etc. Genetic modification is the next logical step. Nowadays it is possible to choose a gene from one species and to introduce it into another to obtain derived improvements. By putting together all the elements used in the improvement of agricultural crops throughout the centuries, it becomes clear that this is an evolutionary process rather than a revolution. One step allows the other to follow in a continuously developing process.
