If you follow a very strict low-calorie diet, is it possible to shed 3 kilos of fat in a week?
It is physiologically impossible to burn up 3 kilos of pure fat in just a week. It is likely that losses as large as these consist of around 1 kilo of fat plus water and more worryingly, some muscle and bone tissue. Losing muscle mass actually is a real problem because muscle burns calories during the day, even when you are resting. A reduction in muscle tends to lower the number of calories your body uses up each day. When minerals from bones are lost, this may increase the risk of osteoporosis in later life. The message? Crash dieting is bad for your health. Don't do it.
