France Bellisle, PhD, Research Director, Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA) (Paris, France)

Dr. Bellisle is the Research Director at the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA). Her research interests include human food intake behavior (food choices, body weight control, eating patterns, etc.), obesity in children and adults, and nutrition and growth.

She is a member of the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Nutrition and Food Today (EUFIC), a member of the Comité scientifique of Cahiers de Nutrition et de Diététique, and Associate Editor of Obesity Research & Clinical Practice. Dr. Bellisle is also a member of scientific societies including the Association Française de Nutrition (AFN) and the European Association for the Study of Obesity.

Andrew Renwick, PhD, D.Sc., OBE, Emeritus Professor, School of Medicine, University of Southampton (Southampton, UK)

Dr. Renwick's work on species differences and human variability in metabolism and kinetics in relation to the uncertainty (safety) factors used in risk assessment led to WHO-IPCS initiatives to develop chemical-specific adjustment factors. In 2002 he received the George H. Scott Memorial Award from the Toxicology Forum. He retired from the University of Southampton in September 2004.

He has published over 160 original research papers and 35 book chapters and other contributions on the metabolic fate of medicines and other foreign chemicals, on toxicokinetics and food chemical safety and on intense sweeteners.

He has served as a member of a number of UK Government Advisory Committees, and he was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the New Years Honours List in 2000. He was a member of the EFSA Contaminants Panel for 2 years and has attended JECFA as a WHO temporary advisor for the past 9 years.

Michael Gibney, PhD, Professor, Clinical Medicine, Trinity College Medical School (Dublin, Ireland)

Dr. Gibney graduated from UCD in 1971 with a first honours degree in Agricultural Chemistry and then with an MSc in animal nutrition in 1972. From 1973 to 1976, he worked as a Teaching fellow and Assistant Lecturer at the University of Sydney Veterinary School and took his PhD in 1976. Following a short post doctoral fellowship back in Ireland at the Agricultural Institute, he moved to a Lecturership in Human Nutrition at Southampton University. In 1984 he took up his present post in Trinity.

Career highlights include election as President of the Nutrition Society, chairmanship of key EU food safety and nutrition committees including Chair of the BSE committee from 1997 to 2000, winning the British Nutrition Foundation Medal in 2000 and editing the Nutrition Society series of four textbooks. Main research interests are in public health nutrition, in probabilistic risk assessment and metabolic nutrition. In 1995, he established the Institute of European Food Studies.
