Salt is essential for life, but we are consuming too much. Salt is found in almost every food we eat. Most of the salt can be found in packaged and processed foods we eat every day like bread, processed meats, cheese, sauces and spreads. Too much salt intake can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke and can contribute to high blood pressure. Salt intake can be reduced on individual level by being aware of your food intake or on governmental level by setting up policies and strategies for the food industry.
