AGRIMED C lays the groundwork for climate-ready training for Europe’s future farmers and veterinarians

Brussels, 22 September 2026 - How can the next generation of farmers, veterinarians and other agricultural professionals be better prepared for the challenges of a changing climate? The Erasmus+ AGRIMED C project is working to turn agricultural and veterinary knowledge into practical vocational training. During its first year, project partners reviewed European and national agricultural and veterinary practices, regulations and existing educational opportunities, while working with stakeholders to identify the knowledge and skills that should be reflected in the future training.

These findings will help shape an online learning platform designed to support future agricultural professionals in areas including sustainable farming practices, responsible antibiotic use, herd health management and climate adaptation.

Preparing agricultural professionals for emerging challenges
Climate change is creating new challenges for agriculture and animal health, while agriculture itself contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. AGRIMED C aims to help future farmers and veterinarians respond to these interconnected challenges through practical training grounded in European and national practices and regulations.

The project also takes a One Health approach, recognising the connections between human, animal and environmental health.

“Climate change, animal health and antimicrobial resistance are interconnected challenges that future agricultural professionals will increasingly need to manage. Through AGRIMED C, we want to turn this knowledge into practical, accessible training that farmers and veterinarians can apply in their everyday work,” said Theodoros Ntallaris, AGRIMED C project coordinator.

From research and co-creation to practical training
Throughout its first year, the AGRIMED C consortium reviewed existing agricultural and veterinary practices and training opportunities at both European and national level. Partners also carried out co-creation activities with stakeholders to gather input on the content and design of the future learning materials.

This work will inform the development of the project’s digital training, helping ensure that it reflects both scientific knowledge and the practical needs of agricultural professionals.

During the remainder of the project, partners will work together to develop training addressing areas such as sustainable farming, responsible antibiotic use and herd-level health management, with the broader aim of helping agricultural professionals respond to environmental and animal-health challenges.
