Spotlight on… International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA)Last Updated : 01 December 2016
ISCA is a global platform open to organisations working within the field of sport for all, recreational sports and physical activity. Founded in 1995, ISCA is today a global actor closely cooperating with its 203 member organisations from 80 countries worldwide (including 103 European organisations), international NGOs, and public and private sector stakeholders.
ISCA is dedicated to increasing the uptake of physical activity – that is because we believe that all citizens have the right to enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of a physically active lifestyle. However, physical activity promotion relies on a multi-sector approach and on effective initiatives that can assist communities and individual citizens in engaging in a more active lifestyle.
All of our initiatives aim to keep grassroots sport high on the political agenda and influence policy making, as well as stimulate an exchange of knowledge and best practices. ISCA’s secretariat is based in Copenhagen.
ISCA has been at the forefront of development and implementation of activities focusing on capacity building of grassroots sport organisations and local authorities, developing quality initiatives that promote physical activity among socially disadvantaged groups, volunteering and youth engagement in the sport for all sector, campaigning for active lifestyles, and other topics relevant to the sector. This can be seen by our long presence as a reliable partner and financial beneficiary of 48 European Commission co-funded projects.
